Hello,

Sorry, I don't speak German so I post in English.
I developed an application for iPhone and iPad to read Japanese (Web or text file) while having a dictionary to quickly find the meaning of an unknown word.

I originally developed this application because I thought I did not read enough Japanese because of the pain of having to constantly lookup in the dictionary for unknow words. So, my level had dropped significantly after the passage of JPLT.

Now, using this app, I read Japanese on my iPad every day and I really enriched my vocabulary. (Of course, I may have a biased opinion because I'm the developer of the application: D).

The application is called Wakaru and runs on iPhone and iPad.
There is a video on youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/WakaruApp to get an idea and a site that details the features.

Sorry to pollute the topic with * commercial * post in English, but I really think Wakaru may be useful to anyone wishing to advance in Japanese.

Hiya,

interesting app, is it gonna be available/work for other smart phones? (sorry if that question sounds silly, I've got no iphone and will certainly never buy one - but maybe another brand... one day)

I think you should revise the thread title though; atm it's not very descriptive.

How about:
Japanisch-Deutsches Wörterbuch fürs iPhone
(Edit: the above means "Japanese-German Dictionary for iPhone", surely you've figured it out anyway )

Thanks for your comment. Sorry, I have no plan in near future to make it available on other smart phone. Maybe, if I change phone...

Rikaichan doesn´t work with Safari and iPhone...

Ok, I ´ve seen the clip and your wakaru seems to be very handy little tool. As the price is some higher than usual - is there any free trial version available or planned?

I haven't planned any trial version or free version. I think the App is priced correctly considering what it can do.
As you were the first to express an interest for the Wakaru, I can offer a code to download the app free in exchange of a small review here and on the app store(positive or negative, I don`t mind, I just hope it will be positive).

Lol, at $3.99 per copy I, too, wouldn't even consider thinking about providing a trial version. If a had an iPhone, or any app store capable device for that matter, I'd buy that sucker twice. But then again, I hate Apple's guts and will never stoop so low as to drop my money their way. But that's just me.
You, however, did a good job and deserve to be paid for that. The price is totally fair.
Keep it up.

Considering that the Japanese-German dictionary is probably Wadoku and selling applications that contain data from Wadoku is illegal without a license, I think $3.99 is quite a lot of money.

wakaru, where is the data for the Japanese-German dictionary from? If it's from wadoku.de, did you get proper permission to sell it? If not, you should make the a free version that contains only the Japanese-German dictionary and charge for the version that also contains Japanese-English and Japanese-French.
